DACH Victorianists Reading Group

2. Session

The DACH Victorianists reading group has been off to a great start! Thank you again to everyone who attended the inaugural meeting and helped make it such a joyful, productive, and engaging discussion. The next session is already in the works! Join us on 12 June from 3-4 pm to discuss an excerpt from Daniel Wright's The Grounds of the Novel (Stanford UP, 2024). Ariane de Waal will moderate the discussion. Please register here to receive the Zoom link and reading material. If you'd like to moderate a future session and have an article or book chapter in mind, please get in touch with Stefanie John.
We hope to see many of you there!

1. Session

We are excited to announce a new initiative within our network: the DACH Victorianists Reading Group, launched by Stefanie John. You are warmly invited to the inaugural meeting of the group, scheduled for Friday, 24 April 2026, 3-4 pm (CET) via Zoom. Scholars at all career stages are welcome! We will host online meetings on a regular basis to discuss critical work on key issues and debates in Victorian Studies in an informal setting. Everyone is welcome to suggest reading material – a journal article or book chapter on any topic which interests you, but which might also be relevant to fellow researchers in Victorian Studies – and to moderate discussions.
At our first meeting, we will discuss Sukanya Banerjee, Ryan D. Fong’s, and Helena Michie’s Introduction to their special issue “Widening the Nineteenth Century”, published in Victorian Literature and Culture in 2021. This session is designed to stimulate conversation on the global nineteenth century in view of the upcoming 9th DACH Victorianists Workshop “'Terraqueous' Victorians: Global Geographies as Metaphor, Materiality, and Methodology” scheduled for 26 June.
We very much look forward to welcoming you to the reading group and/or the next workshop, whether you are new to the network or a long-standing member.
